Amazon acquires video game streaming site Twitch for $970M

Well this news is worth noting because in the past, rumor has it that Google is working on buying Twitch. Which would anger the Twitch community because many left YouTube for a better, less restrict option. As streaming videos games needs competition as well instead of being monopolized by one giant corporation. Google already bought YouTube in 2006 for 1.6 billion.

In my opinion, Amazon a better choice than Google giving their strive to always be #1 in providing great customer service . A choice Google tends to heavily neglects.

In a letter to the Twitch community, Twitch CEO Emmett Shear wrote that “we chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster.” He noted that Twitch will keep its own office, brand, “and most importantly our independence.”

In May, Google had reportedly beat out Microsoft and others to reach a deal to buy Twitch, but three months later, Amazon swoops in to make the acquisition. Google’s offer apparently fell apart due to antitrust concerns (because of its ownership of YouTube), and the two companies could not agree on a break-up fee, Forbes reports.
