As a PC gamer I use Teamspeak quite often while playing. The gaming Clans that lease the gaming servers usually have their own Teamspeak server.
For those not familiar with Teamspeak, it is a program you run on your PC that allows voice communication with a group of other people running the program on their PC's. The program is un-abtrusive and can be left running in the background while going about your normal routine. It has a very small footprint on your PC. A Teamspeak server can have as many people on the same channel as the moderator allows. Or many additional channels can be added for different topic discussions. The different channels are like these forums, many different topics. What is required? The latest FREE version of Teamspeak can be downloaded here. http://www.instantteamspeak.com//teamspeak-download.php It is completely free as they make their money from the leasing of their servers. A headset or Microphone and speakers. Imagine this, you as a designer/coder/contributor are helping someone with a problem or project. You simply invite them into Teamspeak and talk to them one on one. Or this, your eyeballs are about to pop out of your head from being on the PC all day and you just want to take a break and maybe chit chat with your friends. Or maybe even, you are out and about away from your PC and you just want to check into Teamspeak to see whats going on. There is an app for that ![]() Having explained to those that did not know what Teamspeak is, I would like to propose the yearly leasing of a Teamspeak server to be used for the sole purpose of the vBulletin community. I feel there would be many benefits to having and using such a tool for the sharing and or support of the vBulletin community. Now for my proposal/offer, I will cover the rental for the first year of a Teamspeak server .... if, there is enough interest in it. Respond with your thoughts about this so I can see if in fact there are enough people interested to make this worth my time and money. I ask nothing in return. I would be honored to be able to contribute to the advancement and success of the vBulletin community. Thanks' Gary |

WOW! this has to be a record for me. I actually thought somebody would like the idea.
Maybe everyone is scared I was going to ask for donations if they used it? I did not plan on asking for anything. OR, maybe it was just a stupid idea to begin with! |

I think your message just got lost in the deluge of posts. It probably needed bumping. I do not remember reading it myself. Sorry.

Now this is odd. I just answered a post at a computer forum about teamspeak. The logic applies to both here and there.
If some one has a problem and posts it in the forum looking for help, there's going to be let's say 50 others with a like problem hanging on the out come of the thread. To take this person off in to a private chat is not helping others to resolve a like problem. Besides the more input you get on a problem, the more the odds of one or more of them having an answer that works. It's like having a shout box on a forum. If everybody's posting in the shout box, what's the point of having a forum? |

Here is the vision I have of the idea situation to use Teamspeak. A new vbulletin user that has little or no experience comes on the forum needing help. Usually such a person won't understand even the simplest instructions because they don't even know the difference between a header and a footer. Rather than go back and forwards and have the guy or gal get frustrated, get on Teamspeak and in real time you can guide that person in a more productive manner. At no time should it be used instead of these forums but I have seen many, many times it would have been a blessing to be able to actually talk one on one with such a person. I invasion all vb admins, moderators, and other higher echelon support personnel having admin accounts on such a Teamspeak server. There could be a lobby area set up for John Q. Public and another area that is pass-worded and only accessible to those given admin rights. Several areas (we gamers call them rooms) could be used either privately or publicly as the admin would see fit. I could go on and on with the ways and reasons I think Teamspeak would be an asset to this community. But in no way should it be used instead of these forums. I think if anything it would become a great asset. |

And talk to someone one by one took a hell lot of time. Since forum is a place for volunteer to support and share their "already limited free time" to help others. Talking is clearly not a prior option. and for paid services, it's customer's right and developer's offer to go which way they prefer to complete their project. A note: you are mistaking a forum with a group of gamers, who are spending their time, playing and talking with each others via some communication tools. |

The tone of your comment sounds as if I've hit a nerve with you? I wasn't asking anyone to do anything. I was merely offering another resource for the members here. It wasn't going to cost anyone anything except me. Confusing a bunch of gamers with a forum? So you are implying I'm confused? ![]() I started out building forums for gaming clans in 2002. In 2008 I made the move to vbulletin. Over a time span of 12 years I've used every type of v.o.i.p. or similar program to communicate with both gamers and representative's of clans to both help them build their forum or, work with them one on sometimes 1, 2, 3, or 4 to find out exactly what they wanted and how they wanted it. I did this on Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Mumble, x-fire, and yes, even Skype. I pretty much think that qualifies me to make a rather good argument for using Teamspeak over any of the others I've listed. But, I could be confused. |

I now have a Teamspeak server for anyone wanting to use it. It is not pass-worded but the vbulletin room on the rooms list is. The password for it is "voteforozzy". Sorry Ozzy I couldn't let Dreadsuk have one up on me
