I can't imagine this position doesn't exist, so I'm just assuming it does, so...how does the pay scale work? Is it based on which version of vB the forum is running? Is the pay grade based on number of members or threads or posts?
How is a "Professional Administrator's" base pay determined. The base pay obviously does not include any moderating or custom coding. I would assume the base pay would include basic maintenance, back-ups, up-grade installs, fixing bugs in up-grades as they become available and any other routine tasks. Contrary to the attitude of some here, I do not believe the lack of ability or desire to perform these tasks precludes anyone from owning a forum. That attitude vastly reduces the market for the owners/developers of the vB program. My daily life is consumed with running three businesses and I simply do not have time nor the understanding to properly administer my forum. |

There's no need to pay for any such help, if you have a good loyal, trusted user who has some abilities it would more than suffice.

At the forums I visit that have a paid administrator it's usually an internal side job of someone who has another job in the same company like a sales rep or such. Most forums being an admin would not be a full time job.
That said they all do some moderating as well, that can be a valid role. If you were hiring just a part time admin though to do what you said it shouldn't depend on the number of members or posts- although a bigger forum will take a little longer to backup then a small forum, for the most part time to upgrade, debug, ans customize is independent of forum size. The version of vBulletin would not have any direct affect on pay, though with more options in VB4 (assuming you own the Suite) there is potential for needing to put in more hours. |
