I'm in the process of moving my site to a dedicated server (having outgrown the shared server we were using)
I've got all the files and a database backup running on the new server - and I used tools.php to reset the cookie path so I could log in and check the site is working on it's new home. Currently the new server is using some generic url given to me by the hosting company which allows me to test the configuration as best I can The next stage is to be to edit the config files on the live site so it is pointing at the database on the new server (I will take another dbase backup at this time and restore that to the new server). Effectively then I am using the php fles from my existing server and the database on the new one. Then I can close my old shared server account and once that account is close I can point my domain name (which is not changing) to the new server. At least thats how my hosting company told me to do it to minimize downtime and prevent data loss! So do I need to set the cookie path back to what it was? I can't see how to do that with tools.php to be honest. Will the cookie path automatically change back to .swapscene.com when I restore another database backup from the live site just prior to swtching to using the new server database with the old server php files? No one will access the 'copy' of my site I made on the dedicated server until my swapscene domain points to that. Rich PS I sincerely hope I am not inadvertently breaching my license T&C while I have these two copies of the site during the server move! --------------- Added [DATE]1322157229[/DATE] at [TIME]1322157229[/TIME] --------------- Oh I just went and tried it. Restoring the database again sets the cookie path back to the orignal setting |
