Alright so this is how it is,

I post in a thread, go back to the index page, click new posts & the thread name is still highlighted. I click to view it, click new posts & it's still highlighted.

How can I get it to stop doing that?

What do you have set for this option?

AdminCP > Settings > Options > General Settings > Thread/Forum Read Marking Type

Inactivity/Cookie Based is checked.

Try setting it to Database (automatic forum marking)
