Over the past 2 or 3 years since tha launch of my board, I have basically been verifying the posts by new users and then allowing them to post freely once they can be verified to be human. Naturally, because of this, there is a delay to when they post, and when it is actually shown. Now that my board is beginning to grow, and the lack of time I have in verifing posts, members are wanting an immediate display once they post.
I know other boards allow users to have their post shown immediately after posting/registration, but how do they manage the spam in this setup? I need to pointers on how to fully manage spam long term. I've always had to change arrangements every 6-8 months. |

I use the Human Verification Options using "Question & Answer Verification". The answers to the questions I have created are only likley to be known by people who have knowledge of the subject matter for the forum (a particular make of car).
This means that bots can't sign up and as a consequence of this I have virtually no spam at all. The forum has about 500 registered users. You could use the promotion system in conjunction with this so that the new user's posts are moderated until they have say 4 or 5 posts then they automatically get promoted to a user groupl which allows them to post without moderation. |

I admin couple of forums .. one in my sig and this one.
Installed Solve Media Captcha a couple of weeks ago on both and had no spam since installation. You're not going to get rich, but it seems to work. |

I have tried the question and answer, and captcha and I still get bots registering and posting threads, I don't understand how this is possible. Most of them have URLS in their posts, maybe if I prevent new registered users from posting URLS until X no of posts it will save me quote a lot of spam.
