Sharing Login Credentails / Cookie

I have another php app (wordpress) that will host all my users. It also has the shopping cart so that user database is important.

When a wordpress user is created, I'd like to also create the forums user with the same password. I can intercept the usercreation in php to do this.

Also, when a user logs into wordpress, I'd like to write the cookie for vbulletin so that the user is automatically logged into vbulletin as well.

I called presales at VBulletin and their answer to my question about complexity of doing this was that "it is possible". I asked for a little more detail since I can't look at the code itself until after I buy it. Their answer was a suggestion to post on this forum and the quote below.

If anyone has a little better answer than the below, I'd really apprecaite it. I'm a little worried that any question I ask later may be answered with "sorry, that is out of scope for our support department".

As for the 'complexity', I have never before been asked this question in 9 years of doing support for vB and I have really no idea how complex this would be. In the end this depends on your level of knowledge and skill with PHP and MySQL coding.

There is a mod here on vb.org that may be able to help you. It was made for vb3.8 but works with vb4.0.x and wp3.x

It works the opposite to how you described though. Users log in and register through the vbulletin database and sync with wordpress.

How easy is it to customize the vbulletin forums registration? Also, is there anything unusual about the cookie that vbulletin writes? Is it easy to share?

It should not be too difficult for someone familiar with PHP scripting. I don't know what you understand under "unusual" for a cookie, but nothing comes to mind regarding vBulletin.

PS As vBulleting has an extensive user registration and permission system it is more common to work the other way round: to share the vBulletin login with WP.
