Change sub-forum display in FORUMDISPLAY

I would like to change the display of sub-forums in FORUMDISPLAY. I use sorky's sub-forum list control for the forum home but I'm not having any luck with changing within FORUMDISPLAY. I would like to put the sub-forums into columns of 2 instead of just rows stacked on top of each other.

Any ideas?
