And I heard they'll either upgrade for 3.8 or 4.0, what features would they enable? Would they enable any of the social networking features like the advanced profiles, social groups, tags, etc? Would they enable the new fixes enabled in 3.8 onwards like the PM search or the like? Would they change the board style when vBulletin 4.0 is released?
Now, you don't have to answer, I'm just wondering whether this board would be expected to have any new features before 2015. |

my 2¢ ... here we do not need any of the 3.7 features... and we could even drop some of the actual gadgets...
one of the best thing that could occur would be to release all the existing useful hacks that are behind the scene, and we could rehearse them, add new structure, making them products, or better tools... i know there is a lot of great tools here, and making them private is just the opposite of this site. |

Never even though of them releasing their internal modifications for vBulletin.org, but that would actually be a pretty good idea. That way, people who run similar sites could use similar setups to vBulletin.org, they could as you said be improved and people would more easily appreciate just how much has been modified at vBulletin.org.

Ah, so we are supposed to guess and then after they upgrade we see who was the most correct in their guess?
I'll guess that they do not enable social networking. Or actually, can you enable it with predefined groups to join? So users can't go and make their own groups but only join ones that are predefined or OK'd by Staff? I'll also guess they don't turn on albums. I just don't see a need for them here. I'm a bad one to guess since I am not running 3.7 on my live board yet and I'm not familiar with all the things you can turn on and off. And where did you heard that they would either upgrade to 3.8 or 4.0? I am kinda thinking you are correct since 3.8 is on vb.com, but I do wonder where you heard it. |

Who can say what will happen when 4.0 is released, certainly not us. As for new features before 2015 - I'm just going to assume thats a sarcastic question. |

Also, one or two are modified versions of existing mods that would require permission to release them from the original author - others were written by staff who have now left, and would (I think) need their permission to release. BTW, Just out of interest, since most are fairly specialised mods for this site, which would you consider as useful ? |

I mean I know we don't get along all the time but Paul, do a search on Poll or Poll Page, or something, this has been asked for several times on both .com and .org. The only one that offers this currently is vbadvanced, yet .com and .org do not. If everyone uses vbadvanced we lose the originality of custom websites and boards out there, making cookie cutter front pages. We really need that one. I like your Chief First Post concept but that's been modded, more importantly is the notices under a thread looking like ( see attachment ) But you've given the best reasoning as to why they are not released, I didn't know they were all tied together and I'm sure those little notices are tied deep into the system, but the poll one is probably releasable and would help a lot of sites. Thanks, LoA |

And thanks for the explanation about the code here. I didn't realize it was all tied together either, although it really makes sense to do so. (I know I can't split up some of the mods I've written for my site for the exact same reason.) |
