Track Custom User Fields in Profile - Statistics?

My forum is nation wide and I have added the ability (on sign up and via CP) for members to specifiy which state they are from, this then appears under their avatar in place of location.

I was wondering if there was a modification or way to spit out statistics by fetching all the profiles with the state WA and displaying the number of WA members etc etc.

Also even possibly a way of sending PM's to only members from a specific state. Thanks
