Default Remember when?

The one and only "Remember When" thread.

Remember when cassette tapes where all the rage?

Ladies.... Remember "Dittos" jeans?

Gentlemen... Remember "Angelflight" pants?

Remember, "duck and cover" drills?

There were two types of Duck and Cover drills...

The first was for Earthquakes. Common occurance here in Southern California and they still do them in schools.

The second was for Nuclear Attacks. Thinking back, I am not sure even if we ducked and covered that it would have had much affect.

LOL No kidding, that scared me to death as a child. I remember one year when the duck and cover bell rang, my six grade teacher made us watch a film dating back to the 1950's of nuclear war. Even back then, as a kid, I was thinking the same thing... "Why duck and cover for this?". :erm:

I remember watching many documentary's about the Manhattan project and the propaganda between the states and russia along with the precautions the citizens of the united states were advise to take.

One instance was a class of children working at their desks and ducking underneath them while preparing for a nuclear attack. Hilarious. We just hope lead coated suits replace wooden desks to save us from the extreme heat.

Priceless.

Shelley i remember in the 70's when i was at primary school being given a leaflet saying that we had to whitewash the windows of our house and to remove doors to make a lean- to, type of shelter to protect us from Nuclear attack.

Oh forgot to mention, we had 3 minutes to do this,
I remember also the weekly siren tests they used to do, we had one up the top of our road mounted half way up a telegraph pole

Boy, They were the days, anyone else remember the Cuban Missle crisis

How about 8 Track cassettes and Betamax video's

Old english Money

Old money was divided into:

pounds (? or l )
shillings (s. or /-) and
pennies (d.)

I missed the 70's, I was born in the early 80s, about the time when margaret thatcher felt the need to take away our free school cartons of milk.

Edit:Ahh the betamax, I had the chainsaw massacre on betamax. Damn, back then, those video players were more like houses than players. Remember the hitachi vhs video player? with the awesome 30 mile corded remote control. lol
