I am currently combating some server issues. My server is getting VERY slow at times. I have been testing a lot of different things.
My server load is jumping up above 1.00-2.00+ somewhat regularly and this is REALLY slowing down the site. I have tested by disabling the plug-in system and it still jumps up. I am currently using the following: vBulletin 3.7.3 PL1 PHP 5.1.6 MySQL 5.0.45 I do use a lot of plug-ins, but as previously stated, I have tested with the hooks off. I will gladly provide any information I can, but I have to find a way to get my forums more reliable. Thanks! |

Are you on shared hosting? do you have your own server?
If so, you can post a request at vb.com for server optimiation |

We are running on a Virtual Private Server.
How do I request a server optimization on vb.com? |

How much RAM is your VPS allowed to use?
My guess is your running out of RAM, did you check your RAM use under the slow times via ssh? |

To be honest, I'd think it's the words VPS that are the problem - even though they may give you a decent slice of RAM and CPU, disk I/O tends to be lousy, and that really slows things down. Even on a single core machine, a server load of 1-2 isn't particularly high. Don't forget too that if you have multiple cores, 1-2 isn't high at all.
Is it a shared MySQL server, or one running on your VPS? |
