I am day-dreaming of creating threads that go like this...
1) Create a thread called "The giant "Topic X" thread... 2) Create a first post explaining about the frequent repeated posting of the same question and - then posting the most common answers to that question with a polite reminder that you should search first 3) Then moving all the boring repeat questions to live this one giant 'dumping ground thread'. Further, it would be cool for there to be some sort of notice like 'Go check the first post of this thread please" for people visiting via a re-direction (or would a re-direction always take them to the first post of the thread it was merged into?) Note: I already have in place a) a notice to new members to search first before posting b) a plug in that searches for similar threads when you are composing your post (to try to get you to join an EXISTING thread) My forum just suffers from a lot of repeat questions but before you suggest it, a FAQ would not work to answer the questions as there there are too many different ones! The forum suffers from a huge number repeated questions.. Any ideas? Is there some sort of thread amalgamating plug in? One that allows for some sort of introduction post at the beginning (and end even?) Like "This thread is a compilation of all threads ever posted asking the same question" I need a repeat topic strategy for my forum OK - I hope I described the problem OK Thanks in advance VB comrades! |

Yep, still looking...
After 5 years there is now a legacy of repeated topics... I am wondering how to manage them..! The regulars get annoyed with the repeat questions newbies dont mind so much I suppose like all forum communities its striking a balance between curmudgeonly forum 'old timers' and the 'newbies'. What to do with all the repeat question threads? |
