Hi!
I gather there is no such thing as ready made language packs for vB (at least not until 3.0), and therefore it looks like I'm going to have to manually translate my vB into Norwegian. How should I actually go about this? What am I looking at here in terms of workload and hours...? Any hints & tips would be appreciated... TMM |

well, all you have to doy is to edit the templates (ok and a few files, not really much and not absolutely needet)
i've done it once myself to translate the board in german, and it was a hard day ![]() so i'd wait for vb3 and then create a langauge pack ![]() |

Thanks Xenon,
I'd wait for vB 3 but looking through older posts (from last summer) it seems that vB3 was supposed to be "just around the corner" even then, and people were being advised to wait... Obviously I could start the forum using the English version and keep it running that way until vB3 becomes a reality, but if it's a fairly easy job to translate vB 2.2.9, it would look a lot better to have the correct language version from day one ![]() Another issue is that I'm probably buying a vB style template that doesn't include an upgrade to vB3 - I'm not sure how easy it would be to convert this to vB3 in order to use the language pack system? (Any comments on this would be very interesting...) Quote:

hmm, the templatesystem of vb3 is completly different to vb2's so most likely you can't use the style you want to buy for vb2 with vb3 (ok, the graphics and maybe the header and footer with some work, but not the whole style..)
yes, you can translate your board in one days if you have the time on your hand to work the whole day which is hard ![]() normally you don't have to be a vb guru but be carefull, sometimes it will happen that you'll translate var-names and then the site won't work ![]() |

Thanks,
could you perhaps point me to any resources that could be handy on the translation matter; so that I know what to translate and what not to mess with (i.e. VAR-names and such - I'd like to avoid any trouble as far as this is possible ![]() And as far as templates, do I understand you correctly in that I'd be able to keep the general look (graphics, layout) with some work? hmm, the general thing is don't change any term which start with a $
and don't change an input tags (or more special dont change the name="blabla" in them) then you won't get problems ![]() i haven't had the vb3 code yet, so i can just say what i know, but i'm not sure you can keep the style ![]() but i think it would work with some work ![]() |

BTW, could you point out which files excactly I have to modify... is it mainly the .style, or...?
Thanks... |

Well, there's a lot of files to modify, basically, any file that has text in it which is displayed on the vB [they didn't template absolutely everything].
It's hard work though, you need to modify every single template. There's plenty of files with maybe just one or two lines of text in them...so it's a long hard search. |

the templates are the most important things.
some text is in the phpfiles N9ne is right, but you won't see that much of them normally... |

Thanks guys,
Well since my php skills are... well, nonexisting, I thought I could try translating everything that shows up on the forumhome first? Does that make it easier, I wonder...? |
