Hi folks,
Im trying to find the best way of preventing the same IP that has been logged into an account from registering a new account. I run a poker forum that incentivises folk to signup, and I have seen a few cases of one person signing up multiple accounts... I do keep an eye out for it, but as the forum gets busier I need an automated IP solution to the problem. Anybody got any suggestions? ideally when trying to go to register.php it would return an error message like "sorry, you have already signed up an account, only one account per user is allowed". This could also work in conjunction with cookies, but preferrably by IP.... any suggestions? |

But what happens when you have a bunch of different people at the same location who want to register - they will all have the same IP.

you can 'approve' them manually ...

But even then, you still don't know if they are different people or not.
Nevertheless, I just thought of a realy useful mod/hack to stop help with this (for all you coding wizards out there), a module which checks the originating IP and forces subsequent sign-ups from the same IP to have their registration moderated (approved). Adding a time frame check to that would make it even more useful. So if from the same IP and within say five days, require approval. |
