Emails and subscribed threads

I have a user who has opted not to receive email notifications of subscribed threads, yet continues to receive them. I must have a setting wrong, but can't figure out what it is. Can anyone help?

when a user subscribes a thread, it means he wants to receive emails whenever thread is updated.

To not to receive email, ask him to remove the subscription of the thread. He can do so by going to Edit Options-> List Subscriptions-> and remove it

There's no such option to not to receive email notification of subscribed threads lol, what would be the meaning of subscribed then ??

In the Users Profile page in i the admin CP, under Automatic Thread Subscription Mode," this option does exist. You can choose "Sibcrcibe with no notification."This is what the user has chosen, but he's still getting emails everytime a thread is updated..

Any idea how we can get this to actually work?
