How to place user albums pictures in a different directories?

There is a lot of pictures in user albums, but all of them stored in one directory.

Is it possible to store it into subdirectories named USERID or, much better, in directories like albums/year/month/day/ ?

The second way is a good idea for a hack, but I hope, there is a way to store it without any hack?
