Moved site to new server - many issues

I used the manual - I followed the instructions:

1. Backed up DB
2. Backed up files
3. Changed config.php for new site info
4. Uploaded files to new host
5. Uploaded DB via SSH

Now, after 3 hours, I'm stuck with a number of issues. Maybe someone has some insight on some of these?

1. I can't log into the admin CP - I get the login screen, the thank you, then back ot the login screen.
2. I can see the forum, view threads, but when I try to view forum listings - I get the following error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /*path*/forumdisplay.php on line 983
3. Not unlike #1, above, I can't log into the frontend of the forum either - with any username or password.

I'm not sure what I did wrong. I even repeated the backup/upload/import process 4 times with the same results.

I'd be appreciative of any help. I've got to have this forum moved by 10p tomorrow night.
