Is there a reason why some sites still don't try and upgrade from version 2 or the like, when there are now probably more add ons for future versions that any versions of that range of below? No joke, I came across a hosting site using vBulletin 2.3.2 which had been running it for 5 years in a row.

some sites use 2.x because of a complete different structure, server usage and features... remember that 3.x is a complete rebuild and a complete different way of viewing vBulletin... some people like the old way.
many forums with millions of posts are better on 2.x ... |

vB2 is a cool version. I've always been a huge fan of vBulletin 2.
I've also seen many forums using that version also that are huge. Digitally Imported used that version for ages, before they finally upgraded last year. |

I believe a lot of large forums still use it because it needs much less memory.

You can't downgrade if you have a lot of modification to the forum.
