Need help with adding thread options

Hello!
I would like to add another option for my threads.
I'm creating a "Challengs Page" in which there is a list of all the threads which the moderators have chosen to post the thread as a challenge.
Now, i'm talking about ajax on threadbit because i don't know how to code AJAX, but i want to add an option in the Thread Tools, so that moderators can choose to make the thread appear as a challenge.

The thing is this, how do i add the option in the Thread Tools? and i'm not talking about the template alone, i'm talking about the DB changes, and etc.

I don't need to be told everything, just to be given a simple guide will do!!
