Questions about upgrades - -what to tell members to expect

We paid for .com to do our upgrade. They said they'll do it in the next 48 hours. I have a few questions as my members have a hard time with change

Will our site go down during the upgrade?
Will we be able to keep our smilies and avatars?
What should I tell my members to expect during the upgrade?
How will the board change after the upgrade? What are the perks?

I don't think we'll need the vBadvanced, is this correct that the new upgrade has something like that I can add in?

Will our ads go down? We're using AdPeeps, which has been super easy.
