I use one of my vBulletin forms to host private "Home Owner Association" forums and it is a rather complicated process as each time I goto add a new HOA I need to create a new user group and then create the new forum and set the forum permissions so that only members of the new usergroup can access and use the new forum (well plus admins).
How hard would it be to create a script that would allow me to automate this process... Step 1 - Look at the usergroups table and add a new usergroup by name say "VB HOA" Step 2 - Add the appropriate permissions to this usergroup (basically just a registered user) Step 3 - Create a new Forum by name say "VB HOA Forum" Step 4 - Assign usergroup permissions for this forum (Only "VB HOA" and Admin with the ability to define permissions -> and lock everybody else out!) Step 5 - Assign Admin as Group Leader (admin could then add the proper HOA leader) Can most of this be done without having to access the vB scripts if I worked on creating a php script to insert the necessary values into the Usergroup, Usergroup Leader, Forum, and ForumPermissions tables? The HOA forums all have the same basic permssions so the only thing that would change is the name of the HOA and HOA group as I do one HOA after another... Thanks for any advise! |
