What does a .sql file contain?

The reason I ask, is because I suddenly started getting a database error. I backed up my database to a SQL text file on my server and am awaiting my host to import it. My question is, if I do a new install right now and clear the database before they import my backup. What does the backup install? Does it contain the style, members, threads, and everything, or could I do a new install, with a new style, and then when the database is restored, just have the members and threads installed.

Basically, I just want to know, does the SQL file contain everything on my page, if not, what does it do?
