Ok, so you may remember that last year I had a problem with massive spiders in my appartment.
Tonight I have discovered that I am starting with an ant infestation in my kitchen. So far they haven't reached the food, which is good, but there quite a number of them. They also haven't yet spread to the rest of the appartment (which is only quite small). I'm not sure where they are coming in from, as there are some on my main work surface, some on the floor near the bin (under the afore mentioned work surface), and some around the washing machine (other side of the kitchen). What I am wondering if anyone can help me out with, is quite simple. How do I get rid of them? Bear in mind that I have two cats, and my kitchen is open plan into my living room, so things such as ant powder or liquid are totally out of the question as I can't have any type of poison as it is impossible to keep the cats out of the kitchen. So, I'm open to suggestions. |

Do nothing. Your cats will eat anything that moves.
If we are talking 1000's and you can't sit on the sofa with out a crunch sound, then pack the cats in a box and go somewere for a few hours while you bug bomb the unit. |

Zachriah probably suggested the best option, take you and your cats out of the house for a bit and set off a bug bomb.

At the moment there appears to be approx 100 (or at least that I can see) but there were none until a couple of days ago when I first saw one and squished it.
I'll probably have to bear with it until Tuesday anyway (darn bank holidays ![]() |

Are they the little, tiny black ones? They are attracted to moisture and most likely are nesting somewhere in the wall or cabinets. I had a similar problem for two years and discovered that they were coming all the way across my driveway from a wooded area, going up a tree that had water in a knot in the tree, coming back down, going under a old concrete slab into the wall, up two floors and nesting in a window sill that leaked and was providing constant moisture in the wall. I cut the tree down, dug up the concrete slab and repaired the window frame and drywall...finally got rid of them. An exterminator is your best bet.

Maybe look for ant baits or ant traps: http://www.killsbugsdead.com/fop_ab.asp
