Default Crippleware is now allowed on vb.org?

I just want to get this straight: crippleware is now allowed to be released on vb.org?

I feel that v3Arcade is crippleware because if I do not register on his site with a valid e-mail address, and give up info and access to my site to guests (even if it is temporary) so I can get a license from John then I can't get full access to all of the features or games. All of this leads us to the $60 branding-free option that is prominently offered on his site, or the "premium" games.

When was this decision made to allow crippleware at vb.org?

What's next?? nagware, demoware, adware?

Isn't there a double standard being applied here? If not, then Brian, Cinq, The Geek (and others) should be allowed to distribute their products through here as well.

Also- I feel that by turning on some of the "automatic game update" features in that hack may open future potential trojan/backdoor situtations, and that vb.org may want to think twice before supporting such "innovations."

they are not the same as geek's situation. he is still providing the hack for free and the license for free. he only does this process to avoid/deter pirating of the software. do not put brian as innocent either. Brian requires an authorization code to get support on his website. i do not know about this automatic update thing but a branding free option is legal and why can't he charge for premium games?

He can and does charge for premium games - and he has been given a nifty forum to sell those games from here at vb.org - thanks to the mods that decided his hack should be released here. I think that he should be able to sell premium games- at his own site- which is also where his hack belongs.

Also, show me another hack here on vb.org that requires any sort of license to be verified in this manner. I think it sets a bad precedent.

How is this situation different from vbadvanced?

Small correction: He won't be charging for premium games. He just has the interface for Game Authors to sell their games.

Only you feel this way, the arcade isnt crippleware at all. I think you need to look the term up.

The arcade just requires you pay for the advanced features that actually require resources on his end, bandwidth etc.

Why does everyting have to be free? You paid for VB in the first place, I see no guarantees that vb.org needs to be on 'welfare' to run smoothly.

Also, havent we had this debate?

I understand his need to pay for bandwidth- I am not an idiot. I simply feel if he wants to release a hack that requires you to register to unlock all of the features then the hack should not be released on vb.org- it should be released on his site. I never said that the hack should not exist or that he should provide the bandwidth or games for free. He can offer the same hack with the same restrictions/crippleware through his site. I simply feel that it has no place here.

I don't recall this discussion with you before, but it could've happened... I am pretty consistent in my beliefs.

Then you missed the whole commercial debate discussion. I wasnt referring to us personnaly.

As for crippleware it is not. No features are disabled in the version he is giving out.

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/c/crippleware.html

The advanced feature requires a dedicated server etc. You think vb.org is gonna give theirs up for it?

I have seen your comments in his hack thread and it is no doubt what you are attempting. If you dont like the hack dont use it. Leave the rest of us alone.

Please, let's keep it civil. This is the lounge and the place for discussions like this as long as they are civil. Debating should be a learning exsperience for both sides, not a way to wage war.

You are correct- there are no features disable in the version he is "giving out" as long as you are willing to give him a valid e-mail address and access to your site to verify your license that he issued. Since when has this been allowed in the history of vb.org?

As I said before- his hack is great- he should release it on his site. He is already using vb.org bandwidth by posting it here As far as "leaving you alone" you chose to reply to this thread, so please don't be childish. This is the Lounge, and I am allowed to voice my opinion in this manner.
