Hi all,
I think many have the same concern that I have. A lot of people that have enormous message boards have converted to attachments as files. I have been unable to because of the attachment table already being over 1.0 gb and the server could not handle the conversion in the past. However, it will be able to now. Is there anyone out there already working on getting vB3 to work with attachments as files? I am just trying to get a grasp on what everyone's views are on this. |

I use attachments for images only. Here are the problems I see with the current method using attachments:
1) Attachments are stored in the database until you manually invoke a command in admin cp to export them. 2) Attachments are not quoted. (big problem when meaning of reply is lost due to not having the picture quoted also) 3) Only one inline attachment per post. (full size image, thumbnails are useless for me) 4) Members cannot reuse images. (easy to do with [img] tags) I created an upload script in php that allows my members to upload images and then paste the [img] tag into their reply. Works great! All the images are stored in one directory. |

Andbefore anyone asks Scott will be releasing a upgrade script for vB 2 boards with attachment as files installed so they can upgrade to vB 3 without losing attachments.
