Are there any other forums about vbulletin hacking?

I am wondering if there is a place where more advanced hackers hang out without having to wade through questions asked by people who shouldn't be hacking their boards in the first place?

UBBDev had a private forum where people could get together and work on hacks together. It was by invitation only and one had to display some skill to even get in the place.

I deeply enjoy modifying my board and enjoy working with others to improve scripts. However, I have grown weary of flames and the same dumb questions over and over again.

So, is there such a place? If not, anybody want to put a private forum on their board for us to work on hacks together? Hell, I'll do it if there is an interest.

I am sorry to sound like such an elitist snob and I really don't mind helping people out who will eventually get a clue, but there are times when I just want to talk to my peers without wading through "Help me, I didn't read the instructions and I hosed my board now fix it!"

I spoke with one of the admins months ago about this subject and nothing ever came of it. I figured I would take it to the people this time

Another forum. Well in theory it's a good idea. But most of the experienced people here like xenon, logician etc haven't much time on their hands so making hacks is time-consuming for them. So the theory of collaborations won't work because it would mean investing more time as a team to create a hack.

Ah but when you consider that much of the time spent supporting hacks is spent answering stupid questions from people who aren't remotely capable of hacking or contributing, a private forum might be just the haven they need. Just think how much time is spent idiot proofing directions and creating install processes that really aren't necessary when you can say to an experienced hacker "create this field, and modify this file." and then get meaningful bug reports from somebody who understands what is going on.

hmm, if it's a subforum here i'd think it's a good idea from this, but it would also divide the comunity which is the negative aspect of it....

On the plus side, it might bring people back to contribute who avoid this place now because of the frustration of wading through people whining about people charging for hacks, people whining because they can't install stuff, etc. I used to frequent the place daily. I quit coming for months at a time and only came back to look up a few things because I was upgrading. There are some people doing some wonderful things here and I would deeply love to help out. However, my tolerance for flames and for people who don't even make the ATTEMPT to learn what they are doing but just leach off the efforts of others (and then whine about not getting support, etc) is very low now.

I can understand if a private forum here is not in the spirt of the place. However, if there is a place for people to talk about tweaking VB with other people who know how to code, I would dearly love to find that place.

Yeah, i see and understand your point.

I'd like to see such a private forum for more experienced hackers here also, because a new site has always the problem, that not every well know hacker from here will go to that forum, too...

Hmm, maybe you should start a poll about an extra subforum in the sitefeedpack forum here.
at least it would be intresting what the others think about.

I strongly suspect the noncoders who would whine if there was a forum they couldn't get into are going to sink this one. (See how beligerant they get when they see a mod that won't be released on somebody's board?) I would hope the admins look at who voted how before making a final decision.
