The easiest way to do this will be via the user ranks system (Admin Control Panel > User Ranks > Add New User Rank)

Here you can set the image to use, how many times to display it, which usergroups are to use the image, and the minimum post count that is required for it to be displayed.

You can create as many of these as required, and as a user passes to the next post count for the new rank image then the image will automatically update in their profile.
