I like how your layout matches your main site but you need to change the color of the buttons.

You have too many forums. I suggest making a forum "Activities" and in the description list what they can talk about.
ex. "Discuss hiking, camping, cycling, ..."

Apply that to the other forums. When your site gets more active you can bring back those forums.

Having your adsense at the bottom is useless. I'd suggest putting within the forum listings. Browse through the list of my forums and you'll notice "Sponsors" somewhere in that list.
Or put the adsense above the "What's Going On" table.
