My Yahoo list is being generated with the .gz extension despite that fact that it is only a TXT and not compressed. Is there any way to get it to save the Yahoo list as sitemap.txt instead of sitemap.txt.gz since it isn't actually a gzip file?

sitemap.txt.gz should be compressed with gzip, in your case it is possibly uncompressed on-the-fly when you click it to view.
