two ideas for it:

an in-thread abilty to 'advertise post'. it would be a little button in a thread taht, when clicked, auto enters a message into the shoutbox saying like "/me suggests checking out thread [url="thread location"]<Thread Title>{/url], by <Author>

there also needs to be a way to disable the million IRC chat things such as <blink> and /me and everything else from the public. its so obnoxious. tymuch
