If that is the case, why not just create another user and login as that user. Obviously make that user with NON-Admin powers.

Ok, let me elaborate. Right now I've got some php scripts running that retrieves user info: username, user group membership, etc. I use them to integrate a wiki system into the vb's user base. And it works flawlessy.
But when I close the forum, people browsing my wiki system are getting the "Forum is Closed" screen from VB, which of course is very confusing.
So I need to have my scripts do a silent test to make sure the forum is open before I begin retrieving user info.
