I have both; I used FlashChat (which is also an excellent hack for vb) for chatting, vbpager for paging.

I have flashchat, but my users find it inconvenient. This is a great way to engage those who wouldn't use chat in a conversation. Surely the option to keep it open wouldn't hurt, right? And besides, AJAX beats flash any day
