the best thing here is to backup parts of the dB on files that are about 2megs each so there is no timeout...
PHP downloads limits are usually 2megs in size, so it is completely useless to make files bigger... the only way to deal with these big files is by shell...
you can tr to backup with a .zip or a .tgz/tar file, but usually, the transfert is done but not the backup, because the server timeout too... PHP is not good for big transferts...
the biggest tables are usually phrases/templates/posts ... so making these seperate from the others is good when dealing with big forums...
