I keep detailed instructions of what mods, hacks and products I have.
I note which scripts and templates need to be edited.
I keep local copies and urls where I found the mods.
I backup my scripts.
Close the forum. Backup the database.
I normally overwrite the patched files immediately and when I have time upgrade. That is normally within a few days.
When I am ready to upgrade.
Check to see that I have all of the latest versions of my mods.
My upgrade process is to edit all of my scripts, then upload them at once rather than reinstall each one. I revert the templates necessary and edit them.
With products that require no file edits, it is painless.
