I used to use GoDaddy and Tucows but I got mad at those two, also. I finally just switched to having my host register and maintain them for me. Means I don't have to worry about nameservers or even renewing the domains (automatic). It's more expensive at $15/year but I don't really care about the $6 difference.

I use my hosts domain service too. And for me it's currently ?15.00 ($30.00) every 2 years for one and ?20.00 ($40.00) every year for the other, but I've never had any problems with them at all so I don't mind one bit that it costs me an arm and a leg.
