If you upgrade from 3.0.x to 3.5.x then, yes, you will lose your style.

However, it should still work but won't have any of the 3.5.x features in it.

The best thing to do is to install it on a test site running 3.5.x, remembering to check the ignore style version box, then compare the edited templates to find out what has changed and what needs re-editing. Things like the main CSS and images, are not affected in any way, apart from another couple of rows in the main CSS and some new images, mainly in the editor and the moderated one which I think is in statusicon but it could be misc.
