Correct, you could just leave them in there if you wanted to. The only time those edits would ever kick in is if you were running the CMPS script (cmps_index.php) because they (the edits) are looking for an explicit script name.

If you wanted to you could most likely even leave CMPS installed out there without it affecting anything. If you do leave it uninstalled the only conflict I've come across is having vBa CMPS and vB Portal on the same site.... not sure about some of the other portals.
