I have been working on this as well and been in contact with the developer team for phpWebSite. You can see my progress here. It is not complete yet as the team is making some major changes, the plugins(addons) are being developed as well and some are available from their site. The userbase integration will be complete soon and will allow moderators to act as authors. I am also putting the final touches on the vb and phpwebsite control panel integration as well.
