What's the point in removing the version check to improve speed if there is no speed improvement because you're asking the filesystem for the size of the attachment directory (1.5Gb and counting).

To make that page pop up instantly, remove version check, turn off admin stats

Don't your backups and PhpMyAdmin already tell you the key metrics anyway? And if you need to know, turn it back on, check, turn it off. I simply don't need to know this and have it recalculate every time I go into the AdminCp (which is quite a few times a day).
