Sounds like it could be a hiatus hernia. Nasty but controllable with diet.

Yes. They don't like giving out zopiclone if they can avoid it as it is highly addictive if taken for more than 14 nights. It also doesn't work for a lot of people. I'm guessing he probably gave you venlafaxine (it's the most common anti-depressant) in the hope that your sleep problems are due to some form of anxiety. All anti-depressants take 4-6 weeks to start having any effect so don't expect any overnight miracles. If in 6-8 weeks things haven't improved or you experience any side effects then go straight back and see him again.
