Trivialising? No - I'm sorry for the lives that are lost but the hype over Hurricane Katrina is sickening me when every day for the last god knows how many years people in Africa have been dieing every day...

So what you are saying is your indifference is exactly because it hit the US instead of someplace else. Thats fine, at least you're honest about it, though you're damned lucky you aren't typing it in German - thanks to the US.
I have no problem if that is the attitude of the rest of the world as long as they understand the consequences of that attitude.
Since we'll be busy paying for this cleanup, we're not going to have any money for foreign aid. Nor will we be able to afford a military presence in Europe. If that affects the communities where are bases are located, thats not our problem either.
We also can't afford to pay 60% of the UN's annual budget so the rest of you better step up. And while we're at it, We need the UN HQ and apartments to house evacuees, so y'all will have to relocate to Brussels.
The estimates are $100 billion and several years to clean up this mess. During that time, the rest of the world is on its own. Doesn't matter if its an earthquake, fire, tsunami, drought, pandemic, terrorist attack or invasion by another country. We're just going to be too busy to help.
Sound fair? We'll take care of our own and leave the rest to you.
