What could be done to improve vB 3.5 speed and performance?

I upgraded a large board from 3.0.7 to 3.5.0 RC1.
With 3.0.7 all was ok but now with new version there are load problems.

Main web server load is similar or lower with low-medium traffic (400-800 users online), but is much higher than before with 3.0.7 at high traffic time (1100-1300 users online).
