It's just not possible to do plugins for everything. If we have to change existing code or change a query, then we can't do it as a plugin.
You don't have to install code mods that you don't want to use. But, I would hope you would not be so rude as to fuss at a coder, who spent their time and effort to release something to share with you, just because it's not a plugin.
Most of you have no idea what a pain in the patoot it is to write up install instructions, user instructions and such. Accept what you are given with good grace, and if it doesn't suit your needs, either change it to make it what you want, or pass it by.
