You know, I hesitate to piggyback this on someone else's request, but as it was made in October, I have to assume his needs have been met. If this is inappropriate, then if a moderator would split this thread into something unique, I would appreciate it.
So, here I am looking at another kick *** vBulletin site, and links for literally hundreds of others. And what do I think... ?
I think I am green with envy.
In May of 2002 I started a new website devoted to Scuba Diving in the Pacific Northwest. As far as the site goes, everything is moving in the right direction. Good overall numbers, good community support, I am even (almost) breaking even financially on a monthly basis. I guess I can't complain there. Eventually, I think this site has the potential to be something very cool - and while I will never get rich doing it, certainly there is potential for a modest income.
So - why am I complaining?
Well, the guy who I work with (he sets up all the technical stuff, I write the HTML and develop the content) set me up with vBulletin. (before you ask, everything is legit licensewise) and I think the program is really powerful. I had some experience with infopop before, and this is so beyond that forum package, it's incredible. Plus, the database is compatible with Photopost, which we also use.
I guess the bottom line is - I'M JEALOUS!
I am - by trade - a graphic designer. But let's face it, every designer has certain things they specialize in, and for me the UI for a vB BBS is not one of them. Beyond just the graphics, I am not a hacker by any means, and it seems that if I even look at code wrong, the whole thing just blows up.
Is there anyone who might be willing to help me convert my existing vB setup into something cool and UNIQUE!? What would you charge? I don't know if I could afford you (whatever I would pay comes right out of my 9 month son's college fund - I already sold most of my own personal toys to get the funding to bring the site this far)
I sure would LOVE to have the assistance of a vB designer to make this project ROCK.
Just my musings... now back to work.
