Other people said they were used to just clicking anywhere on the page, for example if another window was opened on top of the forums they would click the forums window to switch into it, and of course with the mouseover you can't just click anywhere anymore.

So for a while I changed the mouseover to not make the entire cell a link, to just do the color change, but I didn't like that, because if I see a color change I expect it to be a link. So now I'm back to regular cells with no mouseovers.

To fix those issue's just remove the onClick part, then they can still highlight the text, without clicking anything, and they can still click anywhere, it will only just still highlight. I'd say, re-apply and see how they re-act when it doesn't click-thru.
