on my forums, I have a usergroup set up for the hidden forum, and my mods check dates of birth at their own discretion, its hard to know who is of age, so we decided, that once checking the date of birth, that the posts these people made would be viewed, and we were able to establish that some people applying were only 16 and things. Easily done when you post a topic, and about school or summit, and people say daft things like, yeah I got school on monday

Seems to be the best way, but can be hassle sometimes
