Make sure you have created this in your forum directory.

I created the gas directory in my forums directory and chmod 777.

My forums directory is named "forums" instead of "forum", but I assume that does not make a difference.

Any ideas?

It doesnt. Check the readme for instructions regarding this issue (you have to manually create the folder structure - no big deal really).
