Did some searching and I"m not sure if this exists or not, so forgive me if it does, but is there a hack

For groups with a leader(ie moderated usergroups) do there exist any hacks that customize the 'join process'

Basically, wondering if there's anything that let's us put in custom fields in the usergroup manager for consideration when moderating group memberships like age, real name(stuff they wouldn't necessarily put in their profile but might consider entering for joining a certain group)
