It's not a hack... it's a part of vB that Jelsoft (makers of vB) checks to see if you have a legal copy of vBulletin

That's good... Jelsoft is making it harder for pirates to protect themselves.

Say if you make a software and you want everyone to pay for it who use it... Would you want to make it easy for pirates to steal your software? I'd think not. So you make it harder for them to steal it.

Does that make sense?
